Welcome to My Substack!
1. Who I Am and Why I’m Here
Hi, I’m Aqeel Piracha, a physical oceanographer passionate about understanding how our oceans work and how they influence the climate. My work primarily focuses on studying ocean currents, like the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), using cutting-edge tools like satellite data and advanced coding in Python, C, and MATLAB.

After years of academic research, I’ve decided to share my insights and technical knowledge directly with a broader audience. Whether you’re a fellow scientist, a student, or just someone curious about the oceans, I hope this space inspires new ways of thinking about our planet.
I’m also exploring cybersecurity as an evolving hobby. While it’s not my main focus, I enjoy learning about how technology intersects with science in fascinating ways.
Why now? I’m transitioning toward more independent work, combining my expertise with opportunities to consult and connect directly with others. This Substack is a way to build that community and share ideas in an open, accessible format.
2. What to Expect
In this newsletter, you’ll find:
• Oceanography Insights: Breakdowns of research, technical tips, and real-world applications of my work.
• Practical Tutorials: Coding tips, satellite data analyses, and methods to explore ocean systems.
• Technical Patterns: Observations and reflections on how data and systems interact in unexpected ways.
I plan to post as often as I can, with free content for everyone and occasional deep dives for paid subscribers. Paid subscriptions will help support my work, letting me dedicate more time to creating useful, in-depth content.
